Volterion was founded 2015 as a spin-off of the Fraunhofer Institute UMSICHT. The choice of location was deliberately made in favor of the Ruhr Metropolis, which is considered an ideal symbol for the energy transition. In keeping with the spirit of optimism associated with this, the development center was located in Dortmund, the European Capital of Innovation 2021.
From the beginning, the focus was on developing the perfect stack – the heart of all Flow battery storage systems.
With the acquisition of the majority shares by the Boysen Group in 2019, we have brought our preferred partner on board. As one of the fastest-growing suppliers to the international automotive industry, the Boysen Group with 25 locations worldwide gives us access to a global production network with a degree of automation of well over 90%.
